Lightbulb Starting out (UK)

Hi,
I am new to all this, and have been given the task of taking on Production at my Father-in-Laws dance school
A budget is yet to be set but I am looking for some equipment that is good value for money and probably best to start out on,
2nd hand is something i am considering as I dont think my budget will start at £1300.

Anyway, any helps or tips would be appreciated, for the best camera to start out that will provide me to making DVD Quality DVDs to sell to cast members and family of these shows that we will be doing.

I have looked at the SONY PD150 which looks great but as I am new I really could do with some help

Look forward to your replies

Thanks

Best quick advice from me...

1) If you're going to edit the footage then get Mini DV camera ratehr than one that writes to a small DVD;
2) As you'll be filming performances tyhen make sure the camera has a socket for an external mic; and
3) Make sure you budget for a good tripod. It is essential.

Oh, and make sure you have proper written permission from the parents of all child performers or you'll soon find yourself classified as a perv - if not in actual trouble.
