Next summer I'm going to get a well paying job (for a 16 year-old) and I'm going to buy a camera. A really nice one that is because I'm currently stuck with my crappy Canon ZR-60.

Basically I'm just wondering what is the consumer camera that you would most like?

GL2 with a nice mic?

XL1-S?

The JVC HD one?

I want to know what to look forward to.

Chances are everything would have changed in a year's time! Especially with the advent of However, comparing my newish Canon XM2 with my first cam (Panasonic NV-DS27), well, there isn't any comparision! I'd say for $2k, you'll be EXTREMELY pleased with the results! You'd probably be able to pick up a GL2 (XM2 in the UK) for a bargain basement price and add on that mic at effectively no extra cost!

I'm not so sure about the JVC HD one as from what I understand it records straight to MPEG. Now this ain't the easiest of formats to edit...

i dont know if you saw these movies, but 28 Days Later (horror flick by danny boyle) was shot in Xl1s, and so was Michel Gondry's latest (and freaking greatest at that) attempt at the theatre, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.... 3000 dollar camera woot. but idunno, itll be cheaper then im sure.

check out the movie, you can really tell in some spots. but im sure it was totally suped up XL1s... i think they did it for budget, if my memory serves me correct. i think i read that in like Rolling Stone or one of those magazines sitting around in my dads living room. i always cut out the articles and put them on my wall, but i dont have the one where it says they shot it in XL1s. look around online, im sure you can find proof there

What about VX2000??
That's supposed to be heaps better in low light than any other Mini-DV isn't it? I've not shot with one, but I do edit wedding videos that are shot with one, and the low light shots are damn good. I suppose it depends on what you want it for...if you aren't going to be shooting in low light, it probably isn't a problem.

all VXs = orgasmic in low light situations

hmm that looks good. good low light capabilites would be good since I lights are a pain in the ass to move around and setup and they're kind of expensive too.

how about the VX2100? that is a newer version of the VX 2000 and is supposed to do better in low light.
