I am the frustrated owner of this little DV marvel
As has been brought up before (i'm sure)
is Sony's direct DV transfer inabilities,
I bought a Belkin firewire 3 port PCI card and a 6pin to 4pin firewire cable to enable high def DV transfer to my computer. My DCRHC90 accepts the connection, but none of the software (pinnacle etc...) can find the cam??????
Do I need specifically as eluded to (annoyingly as ilink in manual) a IEEE 1394 Fire Wire PCI card. Or am I just plain F&%$#$#@.
Or is ther some high trickery in the cams actual set up to transfer using firewire
its killing me, who on earth can accept the res of USB transfer?? its obscene, so ya gotta spring for more shit. It's a SONY more like Its a SORRY ass.

Never heared about Sony's direct transfer inabilities, not being able to connect your camera to the pc can only has a few reasons.
You did the connection procedure wrong or your firewirecable is no good or there is something wrong with firewire pci card. In worst case you blew your firewire port on your camera connecting it to the pc.

Best is to turn pc and cam of, connect the firewire cable first to the pc, then to the cam. Turn your pc and then turn on your camera.
If your camera is not recognized by windows then it can be the cable, the pci card or the camera's firewireport which is malfunctioning.
If the camera is recognized by windows but your editing software doens't see it then your doing something wrong with your software, because you state pinnacle etc.. I take it that you tried more then one editing programm, if they all fail to see the cam that means your camera is not recognized by windows?

You say high def, assuming it is a HDV recording you are outputting then your software will only recognise it if it is a HDV editing program, software from last year probably wont do it.

However, VideoLAN is a media player application (free) that can capture HDV, it might be a feasable workaround if your current software can output custom resolutions.
