Question 8mm and Sony DCR-TRV16E

I have an old Sony 8mm Camcorder. I want to get the tapes transferred onto my PC so I just bought a Sony DCR-TRV16E on E-Bay last night so I could hook up the 2 camcorders and put it though the Firewire port to the PC. I initially thought reading the spec that I could do this though the TRV16E but reading the downloaded manual from the Sony I am not sure. Has anyone got experience of doing this through the TRV16E ?.

It looks like you can do it. According to this review anyway http://www.reviewcentre.com/review18480.html
I'd still appreciate any feedback though.
