Default Merry Christmas got a Canon HV10

For christmas I got a Canon HV10 HD camera. I was playing around with the shutters speeds and noticed the higher the shutter the speed the better for high speeds but I was wondering if it actually shoots more frames a sec or if I could do that with my camera? I am also wondering if I will actually be able to tell the difference in quality with me not having a HD tv. Also I was wondering what you guys thing about the camera.

Thanks for the help on the shutter speeds Marc. If anyone has a Canon HV10 I could use there help. When I tried to capture onto my computer it pops up in Vegas cannot open av/c something It says make sure it is on or not being used in another program. Then I was messing around with dv out and hd/dv out and it worked. But when I went to play what i wanted to capture I couldnt see anything I recorded nor can I now. Everytime I record something I go back to watch it through the flip out screen and nothing shows. Thanks for the help if you can understand my babbiling.
