Default Replacement for my digital8

My Sony DCR-TRV240 digital8 was recently stolen along with our vehicle. I have lots of shoe boxes of home movies (8, Hi8, and D that I haven't gotten to convert to DVD yet and I hate that I'm going to have to get another digital8 cam to replace the old, but it's what I have to do.

I'm well over-due for a new cam and I really want a panasonic GS400, but that's going to have to wait. Wife says no to 2 new used cameras or 2 new new cameras. Just 1 is allowed.

What I'm looking for is a used sony digital8 that is a better cam than the newer models that have had features taken away.

Ebay has a few used models and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on models I should be looking for. I'll need it by Christmas, so time it tight.

Thanks.

TBH I dont see that many dig 8 camcorders come up on e bay, I think they were only made by sony for a short time as a stop gap to DV, I would just keep an eagle eye on e bay.

Default Going with a minidv

I decided that I would go ahead and get a minidv. Probably something in the panasonic GS series: 200, 250, 300, 400, or 500. I'd like to get my hands on a GS400 for a good prices, but they're fetching steep prices on ebay. Close to canon GL2 range, which doesn't make since to me. Why someone wouldn't just go for the GL2?

I'll find a new digital8 for cheap on a clearance shelf at the right time of year. For I now I've got to figure out which panasonic GS will suit me best. I've pretty much determined that the GS300 and 500 are downgrades from the GS250 and 400 considering that many manual settings were taken away and no more analog to digital pass through.

A local electronics store still has a brand new GS400 on the shelf for $899 USD. A used one went for +$1000 USD on ebay today. Funny how a camera can appreciate like a house. Anyway. I'm stuck with a budget that will only allow for a camera below $600 USD. I'm lookig for something used.
