Ok heres's my question

Hwat do you need to capture High definition film from a HD camcorder to your PC. Can I use my existing firewire card and firewire cable or do i need something else.

I am looking at this format and see it has now nearly settled down to a steady format. What is the difference apart from the quality, is the sound better or the format you record too. Doea it use DV tape or special tapes ect. Also does this format take up more room on your hard drive?

Lots of questions i know but i would like to know more about this format.

HDV (HD is somethnig pro and better) can be captured like dv, so long as your editor / s ware can handle HDV.

HDV uses compression across frames, the difference but DV compresses each frame individually. This means compression is much more efficient, hence better quality in less space.

HDV is actually a lower rate than DV.

Soundwise dv has the better spec but the results in practice are the same.

You can use the same tapes.

JVC DV5001e (big cam), Sony PC6E (tiny cam), Vinten pro5, PAG light, SM58, Sony ECM50, Sony C-76, 0.5x convertors for sony, Rode video mic, Vegas 7.

They both use mini dv's but the HD ones are formulated around hd video and run about 4 or 5 times the price per tape.
