Thread: Squeeeeeeezing More Video onto a DVD - Part One

I have been looking everywhere for a solution to burn a 2 hour 40 min HD video to one disk whilst retaining most of the quality.
The video was filmed on a Sony Z1 and is edited with Studio 12 (it's not too bad when you get used to it). The video is 8.4 GB and if I burn with studio it will come out at 39% quality.
Has anyone got any ideas ??

39% quality (most likely) simply means that the bitrate used for your video will be approximately half that of the maximum available bitrate allowed within the DVD standard. Incidently, this is the bitrate that has been used on many, many Holywood film DVDs. Provided you use multipass variable bit rate encoding, it's unlikely you'll notice much (any?) difference between the maximum possible quality (one hour) and this.

I must admit that I am very much a beginner with this sort of detail and I am fairly sure Studio 12 will not let me use "multipass variable bit rate encoding" I shall however contact Studio support for advice, but based on past experience will not be holding my breath.
For your info I have now burnt the video onto a dual layer 8.5 GB disk, settings were :-

DVD 7.63 GB (160 mins) on disk @ 6250 kbits/sec with 74% quality

- But the best quality settings I could find were :-
DVD 10.3 GB (120 mins) on disk @ 8500 kbits/sec with 100% quality
HD DVD 29.7 GB (41 mins) on disk @25,000 kbits/sec with 100% quality

I guess I am going to have to try to find a third party software program to re-encode / burn the image file from Studio 12 to disk. Any suggestions ??

If I have totally got the wrong end of this stick please let me know.

I would go for the "39% quality" setting. By encoding re-encoding you will suffer generation loss and will still use the same bitrate as you would have done anyway.

Is it go troll... that have to be part 2. Hmmmmm..... What kinda it is in your mind?
