Default Video tape to DVD workflow

Hello All

I have a quick question for you. I own a 24" iMac, Canopus ADVC-110, Final Cut Express 4, iMovie & iDVD and I would like to record video from my Canopus ADVC-110 and burn it to DVD with the minimual amout of work possible - right now my method is taking a lot of time that I do not have.

Here is what I am doing right now:
1) Capture video from my Canopus ADVC-110 into Finalcut Express 4.
2) Edit in & out points
3) Add chapter markers
4) export movie for iDVD
5) Create DVD menu system in iDVD
6) Created, encode & burn DVD

Total time to convert an 1 hour video to DVD is approx 2-3 hours.

Here is what i would like to do:
Create & Encode DVD on the fly while I am capturing the video.

With the complete process taking approx 1:30 from capture to burned DVD.

Please give me any sugestins on proven well working workflows and required equipment.

Thanks

Bill

you can do that.. I was looking into that my self for weddings.. just google "same day edits" also look at the wedding forums.. I know alot people do that.. I ruled it out because of the extra equipment and cost.. plus I dont want to be rushed..

Thanks for your reply.

I am not looking to do same day edits, i have had a number of client who have old video tapes that they want to convert to dvd. Unfortunately most of them want just straight transfer at a cheap price. I have a hard time with the cheap price since it can still take 2-3 hours at least.

I do have all the equipment I need and I have been making dvds that turn out really well, its just not a fast enough process for the cheap straight transfer service.

Thanks

oh ok.. well Pinnacle studio plus has that feature... you just import the video and it burns the disc at the same time.. Personaly I hate Pinnacle because its so buggy and their customer support sucks.. but it dose have what you are looking for.. I dont think they have a trial for the software... most likely because they want sales and and if they let people try it 1st they wont get them.. if you feel brave go for it, it might work with out issue for you.. good luck

what about a simple dvd recorder? sometimes the simple ideas work wonders.

you could probably use vlc to transcode the video on the fly and write it to a file then you could burn this to a dvd. don't ask how but it's vlc right? it can work wonders if you think about how you'r doing this.
