Thread: New to dvd cropping question

Hi all

Im kinda new to this whole editing and effects game, and having a little touble with my movies.

Currently the movie I have is in avi format and it looks to be 16:9. So i get the black bars at the top and bottom (not the sides). But I really want the image to fit the whole screen so its like 4:3.

I've try re-encoding with xilisoft, and it also has a cropper built in for dvd files only but every time i try using the auto crop it crashes . All I want is for the image to fit the screen without loosng the current quality so when I encode to dvd its still good.

Any one know of a prog (preferably freeware) to do this with

if this has been letterboxed then re-encoding and recropping to make it fill a 4:3 screen will result in a loss of quality no matter what.
