Default Fitting DVD writer

Hi all
I am thinking of buying a Pioneer 107 DVD writer, but am not sure whether to get an internal or external unit
The internal unit is about half the price of an external unit, but I am put off getting the internal unit by the prospect of fitting it, I havn't fitted anything to my computer before, what sort of job is it?
Is it a job that a novice could handle?
Any help will be most welcome
Thanks
Dave

I fitted an internal Pioneer 106 to my PC. It was easy-peasy.

OK, it was a replacement for te CD-rewriter that was already in the slot so I knew I had the connectors there.

It's simply a case of sliding the unit in, attaching the ribbon cable and one other little cable (power? - can't remember), set the jumpers as slave and then make screw the unit tothe PC case.

Boot up Windows XP (in my case) and the first thing it said was "Oh cool! A new Pioneer 106D re-writer, cheers Alan!", or words to that effect.

Basically, it plugged and played in the simplest form and has worked everytime.

And with an intrenal unit you don;t have the worries about whether your USB2 or firewire port is traneferring the data fast enough, either.

Basically, open the PC case, see if the ribbon to your existing CD drive has a spare port and if so then away you go. Of course if your replacing an existing unit then you have already answered that question haven't you?

do check that you have the necessary internal connectors free first though.
