Default Virtualdub Mystery

I have an 11gb movie.
I thought this was going to be a pleasure - creating film with prem pro - but this bit of it - the computer stuff - is a bloody nightmare.
So far I have had to go and buy and external 200gb thing because the memory on my comp was getting forgetful. Then, I had to go and buy an external dual layer dvd burner....i thought prob was solved....
trying to read through the posts here, virtualdub keeps on being mentioned.
i have downloaded it. now how do i use it?! i just want to compress my movie so it can be seen on a dvd - that's all. i have no computer understanding at all - i'm a lecturer in fine art - so i'm creative but this is killing it for me....please let me have my life back, get this movie onto a disc! i can't understand all this codec shmodec stuff - i am in awe of all computer bods...you speak in tongues but how i envy you.

To put your final movie on disc and playable in a standealone DVD player you need to author a DVD using a DVD authoring application. VirtualDub will not do this. You mentioned using Premiere Pro, and this has an Export to DVD feature. Please check your manual regarding exporting to DVD.
