Cameras are everywhere and broadcasting to the world via YouTube. Mobile phones provide high quality videos in a tiny package, and phones like the nokia n8 even provide instant editing and upload. It's never been so easy to film, edit and share your video. You could say we're in a golden age of instant access and portability. A position only dreamt of 5 years ago. Anyone can become a video star, and by the look of YouTube, everyone has.

Forum regulars know my love of laptop editing. It's a great way of ensuring your hobby doesn't keep you locked away in an editing suite. But that freedom comes at a cost: finding a laptop that even approaches the power of a laptop is a daunting process.

I honestly never thought I'd say it, but I really want an iPad. It seemed the epitome of everything I dislike: technology for the sake of it. After all, it doesn't really know if it's a gloried PDA (remember those), a oversized iPhone, or just half a laptop. I looked at them with disdain, and certainly didn't need to try one before I knew I didn't need one.

It had to happen sooner or later. A videographer has been sued for breach of contract following a less than professional attempt. Parting with £1.5k for a video and photography package, Marc and Sylvia were presented with a video nasty. "Bowers (the videographer also missed the cutting of the cake and you can see how angry I'm getting on the wedding video - I even do a psycho slashing knife action, which I can't believe they left in."

How much is your hobby worth? Or more importantly, how much can you justify spending? It's all to easy to spend a small fortune on video editing, but is that expense really justified and what does it really add?

As a self confessed gadget freak, I'm guilty of a gadget for gadget's sake. Do I really need a PS3 and a Wii? Does my 5.1 surround sound and 40" TV enchance my viewing pleasure? Does my heart rate monitor increase my training capacity? I hardly need these items, and some ...
