please help this newbie

ok here goes i have a sony hvr-hd 1000p camcorder and i also have nero 8 editing suite. what i want to know is can i make my footage in hd quality using nero 8 and if so how do i do this any help would be most greatful, i hate being a newbie but i suppose we all start somewhere, please help many many thanks in advance,,,preston
