Default adding text to movies

hi again, can someone please explain to me how to simply add text to a movie for example.. some old homes movies, and while the movie is playing I want text to fade in with a message and fade out... please help me

depending on what editing software you are using depends on what answer to give.

Really simple though and i think you will kick yourself, in premier pro there is a text option which once selected opens up into a text menu. From there you can float text in & out, fade up & down and pretty much do anything.

i have never used window movie maker... but wont that do titles?

yeah I have Windows Movie Maker and It is good if you don't want anything ultra professional looking. You can do that title stuff.
