Default dark frame around video after editing

Im using Premier. Any clip I open in this program and edit comes out with a large black frame around the video. This frame isnt there before the clip is edited. The video fits perfectly in the program that is playing it. But not after I edit. Then the window is twice as big, and the video is the same size.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Also, is there a way to export your video with the same specs it came in with? Seems like im always losing quality no matter what.

thanks!!!

Respectfull, I think we'll need a little more info to help with this. Give us your project settings, video frame size of the clip used and export settings.

Likely as not you have a setting wrong somewhere.
