Default what do i need?

what is the best combination of editing software right now?editing to final production.ive used adobe premiere 6.5 and windvd creator and thought i lost quality in the final product.also would like to know where i can find a good tutorial on these programs.thanks

Is it just editing you want to do? Then I would stick with Adobe, but get one of the more upto date versions where you can burn to DVD inside the same program rather than using a second piece of software. After Effects is also a great piece of software for special effects and keyframmable animation.
