Default Need for speed when editing with my spec!!

I have a Nforce3-A 754 motherboard.
A Sempron 3000 CPU.
1 gig of DDR RAM.
65gig of free space on the Sata drive where the rendering saves to.
While rendering the cpu usage was between 96 and 100%
The memory usage was between 647 and 652MB
With this spec it takes 1 hour to render 10 minutes of video.
Can anyone tell me how I can either speed up this system "without replacing it" or give me any idea of what is causing the slow rendering speeds.

Hi

Sorry if I've asked this question before but is that a 3Ghz processor or what speed is it actually running at? You have enough memory (check), I also have a 256Mb graphics card, are you using one yourself? ,use Firewire all the time, you also have a SATA hard disk (check), when was the last time you defragmented your hard disk? I've had to defrag mine 3 times in the past week. What format did you capture your video in and what format did you export it as?
