Thread: Problem on dvd playback, its like watching tv through froste

I have used showbizdvd2 for some time now and decided to give adobe premiere pro 2 a try by using their trial package. After waiting for an hour and forty minutes for it to render the footage I found that I on full screen it was like frosted glass had been placed in front of my pc screen.
I know it is my fault but can anyone point me in the right direction.

It sounds like the image is pixellated when viewed full screen on your PC.

I'm presuming that you are editing standard Def footage. Which is likely as not 720x576 at most. Also, assuming you export your final movie to the same dimensions and your PC monitor runs at a higher resolution then viewing the resultant footage full screen will cause a digital zoom and make the image very pixellated.

Just run it at 100%.

What files does your software handle? Is it just mpegs as the name suggests showbizdvd2? Do you know what format the file was recorded in, was it using a Mini DV camcorder or DVD camcorder? You may have not selected the best quality export options when saving the file.

Thanks Nikosony for your input. The footage was recorded on a Sony camcorder in DV format. Funny you should mention Showbizdvd2, I had already produced a dvd of it using that software and it was perfect.
I had the same results "frosted glass effect before" I found out that time that it saved it as AVI, when I encoded it in mpeg it was fine.
I am still at a loss with premiere 7.0 and will need to get a book on how to use it properly. One thing I have found when it finally produced a mpg file it took 2hours 34 minutes to encode. My computer spec is 1.8 processor, i1gig ram 3 hard drives with over 100gig of space.
I love the software but showbiz blinds it for speedy encoding.

From what I can gather it seems a quality setting issue. Whether you've dropped the data rate, changed from CBR to VBR or maybe you are using MPEG1 instead of MPEG2?

I need to get a book on the encoding part of Premiere pro.
I checked the encoding summary and it is mind boggling.
I will study the whole thing further.

I wouldn't go looking in books about encoding or data rates because if you don't know what you're looking for or you're not familiar with the jargon, you may end up even more frustrated than before. Check to make sure you have the highest quality settings selected before making your DVD. There is usually a file that you can reload that will put the software back to it's original factory settings, so you can start afresh.

Now I don't mind being told I'm wrong or wide of the mark because given the level of detail you supplied at first and the level of beginner we often get here it's better to just start at the beginning. But being ignored completely is just rude!

I am a bigger novice at protocols of these forums than I am at editing with Prem Pro but ignorance is unacceptable, so again I am very sorry to have offended you. I took on board what you said and the picture quality became a thing of the past.
