Default Help! Editing 320 x 240 mpeg clips

I imported a bunch of footage that is 320 x 240 MPEG clips. I didn't do the capture and was given the footage. I am using Premiere 1.5 and am attempting to export edited clips (using the work area to define the individual clips). When I make AVI clips I get bad artifacts with most settings (I assume from recompressing). When I attempt to make MPEG clips using the media exporter it takes a year to create each clip and the size is huge even with low mpeg settings.

There are no transitions or effects. ISN'T THERE A WAY TO EXPORT CLIPS WITHOUT RECOMPRESSING? I have unchecked the "recompress" box but it doesn't seem to help - probably because I'm converting MPEG to another format.

I haven't worked with little mpeg clips like this before and am sure I'm missing something. Any help greatly appreciated!!!

You can use videoredo to cut / trim MPEG without re-encoding. If you can afford PRemiere 1.5, I assume you can affored VideoRedo.
