Please Help!! Exporting video files - new to all this!!

I am trying to export a premiere elements 1.0 project. I have saved on hard drive as an AVI file and then I wanted to transfer this to a CD-R. The data seemed to transfer but when i put CD into another PC it cannot open anything.

Where I am going wrong?? I want to be able to play this on PCs without premiere. Should I try a different format? Will this effect quality??
