Default Stuttering Preview & Rendering Time

Hello,
I am using canopus Video FX & Hollywood FX with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. When I put any transition between two clips & play that in realtime it stutters & don't play properly & If I render a clip with transitions between, it takes a one & half minute clip about seventeen minuter the render as MPEG for VCD. so its almost impossible to work. Pls let me know what are the optimal settings for adobe premiere pro to work smoothly.
PC Specs:-
Intel P4 3.0 Ghz,
Intel 915 GAV Motherboard,
Geforce PCX 5300 graphics card,
Seagate Sata HDD.

You have misunderstoof what you should expect to achieve here.

Editing video is NOT a real-time process. These times are not bad.

I have experienced a 20 minute clip taking over ten hours to convert to MPEG2 for DVD conversion. It's just the way things are.

there are things you might be able to do to speed up the process though.
