Default Alpha Channels

Hi Folks,

I'm having real trouble getting my head around Alpha Channels.

I want to make a logo in Photoshop that will be transparent and used in PremPro.

Are they anything like transparent GIFs or is it different.

Also how do you make certain colours about 50% transparent?

This is all done in Photoshop.

When you start your composition remember to start with a transparent background. This is evident from the grey and white checkerboard patter over your image.

Paint/draw/import whatever you want into it. In the layers palette, select any layer and slide the opacity control to 50%.

Do this to any layer you like.

Save the file as a PSD.

Import the PSD into Premiere. you can either preserve the layers or not. Either way, the image will have transparent areas (as long as you left some) and when placed on top of a video layer you will see the video layer through the transparent areas.

Cheers Alan, I thought I had to start messing about inserting Alpha Channel layers and more.

I'll give it a go later.
