Default Newbie: Help! Elements is being difficult!

Hi,

When I import any video file into elements it plays back fine when I select 'play back in monitor'. However when i play it back as part of the timeline (ie:when I've imported it into the timeline) it play back in a jumping fashion, seeming to miss out frames. the audio is fine as far as I can tell. Is there something I can change in the settings or is my system not up to the job?

AMD Sempron, 1.5G RAM, 80GB internal HD, Sony DRU DVD, capture by USB 2 (would a firewire card be better?)

Many thanks,

Jon

Hi

Always, always, always use Firewire and forget about USB. What is processor speed on your PC?

You'll need a chip running anywhere from 2.6ghz to over 3.0ghz going by the figures I've seen on this forum and I use a 3.2ghz Pentium 4 with HT myself (that is when I finally get my PC working again). As for prices check the net, video magazines or maybe someone this forum might have an idea.
