how did the editor of fight club (james haygood) get parts of the movie to look as if it was on a film reel that was falling off the projector?

In truth I have no idea.
But as I recall, it is discussed (at least briefly) in at least one of the "Direfctor's Commentary's" on the DVD.

no promises mind. I'm sure I remember then talking about it a bit in one of the commentaries. It may proive not to be techy stuff though. I have the R1 copy of the disk. The special one with 4 different commentaries.
