Chroma Key Problems....

Hi guys,

I was working in Premiere Pro, using Chroma Key.
This is how the video turned out:

Now, I know that some of the crappiness is done by not good shadowing, but how do I fix or help the pixlelated edges at the end of the sheet, and around my foot?

Is there a tool out there, that would fix it, or is it simply a problem with which I would need to resolve when actually recording?

You really need to get a crisp uniform colour. If I'm right, your green screen was actually placed on the floor - making it almost impossible to light evenly. You're replacing 'one' colour, so you need to get as close to one colour as possible.

So, if I get better lighting, that should go away?

I had the same problem, I was using a bright purple sheet on a wall...good lighting not much shadows but was get uneven lighting.

So, if I had like evenly distrubited light, the roughness will go away?

Hi Baluk

I've heard of people using a light meter (can't remember which type - it might be a spot then maybe someone else can remember) to check nine points on the cloth you are using. You are looking for consistent readings at the top left, top middle, top right and then centre left, centre centre and centre right and the same along the bottom. I know it might sound a bit excessive but if it gets rid of your problems so you don't have to spend hours in post production trying to get rid of artifacts or shadows then it's worth it. You could also use the clone and eraser tools in After Effects if you have access to it.

At the moment, I only have access to Premiere, can that do it?

There is a product called Chromonator available from http://fxhome.com/chromanator/

I've not tried it but it claims to solve the crappy sheet syndrome. You could try the demo and see if it does the job. If it's anything like EffectLabDV for results it should be a gem.
