Default Audio noise in a DV file

I've transferred this footage from a VHS tape (using Premiere Pro). I've tried to reduce the audio noise as best as I can but I cant quite get it perfect.

If someone could have a go and possibly explain what was done I would be extremely grateful.

Edit: The only audio I'd like to hear is the guys voice.
Edit: This file is 10mb as its a DV avi

Can you describe this particular audio noise? All sounds operate at certain frequencies and so it might be possible to lower or cut a frequency or set of frequencies to get rid of the noise. You say your file is only 10mb in size, is this correct? How long does it run for?

The noise I can hear is like a whining noise. Its pretty quiet and I've tried using the DeNoiser effect in Premiere. Yes this is 10MB. Its only 3 secs long tho as I exported it as a DV avi. Would it be better for me to export again with the video compressed and leave the audio uncompressed?

Many thanks.

Edit: I have changed the file to just audio. Its 2Mb and 12secs now.

This is how to fix it.

Firstly, download and install the demo of Adobe Audition if you do not already have it.

Use Audition to grab the audio from your video.

Select an area of the sound that only contains the hum you wish to get rid of. Specify this selection as the noise filter.

Choose noise filter to remove those frequencies from your audio.

Job done.

Ok so thanks for your quick reply to my query but I have one more question. I've captured the Noise Reduction Profile. Now how do I apply this to the whole clip? Thanks.

Right I have the thing in front of me now.

open up your audio.
Select a portion of the file containing just the noise to filter out.
hit Alt+N (or Effects -> noise reduction -> Capture noise production profile from the menu)
Then open the noise reduction tool. Effects -> noise reduction -> Noise reduction.

This open up the tool.

Click the 'Select Entire File' button and then hit th preview button. Play with the settigns a bit until you're happy then hit 'OK'
