After I edited down to a small 1.5 min video clip (the source was my camcorder DV ~ 2.3 Gb - PAL for about 18 mins). I intend to use Windows Media Encoder to reduce this clip, currently ~ 260 MB, to around 1 Mb in order to e-mail it.
But my question is what should be done and where. At present I export to AVI from Adobe Premier Pro (clip on the Timeline) then apply all the settings in WME.
But do I need to use the Deinterlace option?
Any advice please.

if the result is ultimately goinmg to be vioewed on a non-interlaced device, i.e. a PC monitor then, yes, de-interlace it.

Any time I want to de-interlace I've always done it at time of export from premier Pro.
But that makes certain assmptions on your part.
At the moment you have a large AVI file on your PC right? What is that AVI being used for? Purely for PC viewing or is it used as the source for building a DVD? or what?
If it's being used for building a DVD to watch on a TV then leave the AVI interlaced. If it's only ever going to be viewd on a PC monitor then de-interlace when you export the big AVI from Premiere Pro.
Does that make sense?

Ok, I think I understand.
I use the big AVI for a DVD generations, but if I want to send a small clip then I edit the big AVI and just leave the bit I want on the Timeline then export to a small AVI with it de-interlaced.
This small AVI will then be encoded into an MWV via Windows Media Encoder for e-mailing; display size say, 320 x 240.

adobe media encoder should do the trick-File>exprot>media encoder then twissle the settingws

I managed to get a video snippet of 200Mb down to 9k after using Windows Media Encoder. This was to e-mail.
e.g. AVI to WMV
But I struggle with the settings to acheive the same in Premier Pro, any suggestions please. WME was clear and easy.
Also does Premeir Pro convert to MPEG4 which I am told have a small file size also.
