Hi There,

I was hoping someone could give me some insight on a small problem I have in my first DVD Movie I have made using Premiere Pro 1.5. Everything is fine except when I made the DVD and played it on my Stand alone DVD player hooked to the TV I see minor ghosting from people walking or in my case the model rockets I shot on video.

I have used Sony Vegas Studio +DVD and even have used Premiere 6 (I would edit in Premiere 6 and use the Sony program to burn to DVD till I got my Premiere Pro 1.5 recently. I have edited and burned DVD's both in the Sony Program as well with no problems of ghosting) both and never had this problem with the ghosting. It is like when a person walks by in front of the camera you see like a blurring effect ghosting behind them. I did not use any effects like this in the video when I produced the video in Premiere Pro 1.5. This is what has me stumped why it is there.

On my Stand-alone DVD player, which is a Sony/VCR combo, there is little ghosting but noticeable. My friend has a Mitsubishi DVD player and it is more noticeable on his DVD player than mine. Now, if I play the DVD on my computer (and my friends computer) I see no ghosting at all. I have an LCD monitor and my friend has a CRT monitor.

When you were burning your DVD, did you set it to the highest quality? And not to say SVCD or VCD quality? How did you connect your camera on this particular occassion to your computer, I take it was by Firewire and not USB? Did you change any of the capture settings on your software or update/replace/delete any codecs? Is the DVD playing back in full colour and filling the entire screen, I just want to make sure you didn't make an NTSC version instead.

This is what I had it set on and what it choose the first time:
High quality, VBR transcoding of Progressive-frame content (max bit rate = 7)

On the first try I did not change anything.

I did try it again (re-rending the whole movie of mine) and changed the Maximize Bitrate and DID check that box. But I did not check the ForceVariable Bitrate box. And it still had the ghosting problem.

I just tried again tonight with just a part of the video that I saw the ghosting in (with the Max BitRate box checked once again) (and also just did part of the video since it takes my computer 8 hours to do the complete video) because I thought maybe it was my computer either not fast enough or not enough memory, which I know I need really 1 gig or more, but it did the same thing with the ghosting.

I went to File/Export/Export to DVD so no I didn’t do SVCD or VCD.

The first try I didn’t change anything. The second try I did change (checked the box) the Maximize BitRate and it changed the Calculated BitRate to a 9. I noticed 7 is High Quality and thought since I changed that and it said 9 that was even better the second time but I get the same ghosting problem.

No Codec replacement/updates or deletes, which is a good idea now that you bring that up, how do I know I have the right/updated ones? That might be what is causing this.

DVD is playing in full color and filling the screen. I did make it NTSC because I failed to mention I live in the USA, so that part is fine.

I copied the below summary that it gives you. This is from the latest try that it still gave me the same ghosting problem as the very first try. Th only difference is this one I checked the Max Bitrate box and the first one I did not. Both gave me the same ghosting problems though, so maybe it is the codecs? I don't know, what do you think?

OK, I solved the Ghosting Problem and man does the video look GREAT now! So clear!

I went in and changed some settings just to see the different BitRates and what they change too and found this one that changed the BitRate to 7 and no Minimum and no Maximum setting for the BitRates. So I chose that one, tried it and the video has NO ghosting at all when burned to DVD and played on my set top DVD player.
