Default Using 'edit original' in Premiere Pro

I have tried it, looked in the help section and can't figure out to properly use the 'Edit Original' option to edit the sound of an avi clip. When I edit the sound in Audition, I am asked to save the sound file as a pcm file. When the movie is exported I get the original sound, not the cleaned up version. Do I need to import the pcm file, delete the sound from the original avi file from the timeline and put the pcm in the timeline in its place? It does not seem like a very efficient way to operate and I assume I am missing a piece of the puzzle.

Thanks,
PTN
