CCTV Fuzz

Hi all,

I am just compositing a shot at the moment which is supposed to have been taken from a CCTV camera. I am going to make it black and white, but I was wondering what the best ways are to degrade the quality of the footage to make it look more authentic (like it's been taken from an actual CCTV camera).

After that, the camera gets shot (with a gun) and I would like it to display that fuzzy grey and white stuff that you get on an untuned TV. Is there any way to make that?

I can use Premiere 6, Premiere Pro 1.5 and Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus.

I've used Particle Illusion to create both those effects in the past. You can also create video snow in Adobe Premiere by applying the noise effect under Stylize to black video.

I tried the Premiere way and it works fine, except it still looks slightly wrong. I think this is because CCTV cameras have a lower frame rate than DV. Is there any video filter in Adobe Premiere which will reduce the frame rate slightly? I could redo the project at a lower frame rate overall, but it would mean the last hour spent on this would be wasted.

If not, I may just leave it.

How did you do the stripes going downwards?

Put the video posted below in a layer above your video. Then drop the luma key onto it. Leave the threshold as 100, and drop the cutoff to around 50.

I found that putting the cutoff to 100 and dropping the threshold to about 8 gave the results that I was looking for, but I suppose it all depends on opinion.
