Default Premier Pro: Change size of clip

Hi,
I just downloaded the tryout of adobe premiere pro and I can't figure out how to change the size of a clip.
When I say that, I mean I have a clip, but only the left half is relevant. I want to just cut out the right half and put something else under (a different clip).
However, when I reduce the width, instead of removing the part I want, it just shrinks the whole thing.

Here is a little illustration
Imagine a clip:
|uuu not useful |
|sss not useful |
|eee not useful |
|f f f not useful |
|uuu not useful |
|l l l not useful |

Now what I want:
|uuu| other clip |
|sss | other clip |
|eee| other clip |
|f f f| other clip |
|uuu| other clip |
|l l l | other clip |

But this is all I know how to do:
(NoUse = not useful just horizontally compressed)
|u NoUse|
|s NoUse|
|e NoUse|
|f NoUse|
|u NoUse|
|l NoUse|

Everything is horizontally compressed and the useless stuff is still there.

Anyone know how to do this?

If I read you correctly, there are two ways. Just apply 'crop' to your clip. In the effects folder, it's under the 'Transform' effect. It will chop off whichever part of the shot you want to lose.

Even easier, just add the clip you do actually want onto a track above video 1, then shift parts of each across, out of the frame. Under 'Motion', you can move your clip left & right, up & down.

Does this help?
