This might be a silly problem - I'm new to this.
When I insert an effect into a clip and then view it in the live preview window,
the clip plays and a small "X" pops up in the top left at any part there is supposed to be an effect. This has only just started happening.
Does anyone know what may cause this ( settings, ect ?? ) ??

The 'X' means 'not yet rendered'.

If I remember rightly, with 6.5 you alt+scrub to see your applied effect because it can't render instantly.

Or else bring the work area bar to just the piece you want, hit enter to render that bit, and it'll play through smoothly. Does this help?

I will give that a go. I think I have fiddled too much with settings ?
I have a few video tutorials that came with the package when I bought it.
The live preview was working as I worked through the examples, but has
stopped now.... I will report back on the alt+scrub.
