Default Improving Speed Of Encoding Process

My full spec is as shown in my signature. I've also just fitted a 200GB 7200rpm, ATA133 HDD just for video work.

In most respects the system has met all my requirements since I built it in 2002 but I have recently started to get involved with producing home movie DVDs and I'm finding that the encoding process is quite slow.

I recently burnt a 1hr 33min movie to DVD with Premiere Pro and had to leave it overnight (this in itself wasn't a problem) and think the total processing time was in the order of 10-11 hours.

According to the Soltek web site http://www.soltek.com.tw/soltek/down...%2FSL-75DRV5-C T1.5 BIOS supports AMD Athlon 2400+, 2600+,2700+ so T1.8 will do the same.

I'm not in the market at the moment for getting a completely new system but wondered about a smaller upgrade such as replacing the CPU.

......................................
Q) Would I notice a significant improvement in the encoding process by fitting either a 2600+ or 2700+

Q) Is there anything else I can do to speed up the encoding process?

Thanks

That sounds excessive. Generally, I'm encoding about an hour of video at a time. I export to .avi after I'm done editing in PPro and that usually takes less than an hour. Then I build my DVD from Encore and, while it takes longer - perhaps a couple of hours, I've never really looked - it certainly doesn't take that long. I have a 2GHz processor, but only half the memory you have. Strange...

Perhaps I'll try exporting to AVI before burning the DVD outside PPRO and see if that speeds up the process.

Unless of course there are some tips and tricks I can apply to speed up PPRO?

OW: if you search Mr Mills's posts, you'll see he is an advocate/proponent/devotee of some gizmo or other (strangely, I forget exactly what - and I must have read about it on here a zillion times or so...) that encodes in hardware and, generally, he loses no opportunity to tell all and sundry about it. However, he's now gone all shy on us - doubtless because of the mild ribbing he takes for his allegiance... Only kidding, Alan!
