Importing mp4 files into Adobe Premiere Elements 4

Hi

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 4 here and am having problems when importing mp4 files. They jump and skip, Flicker Green every now and then and generally just flip out on me.

Does anyone know what's the problem here and whether there's any specific settings i need to tweak within APE to get it to work properly?

You are wasting your time trying to get mp4 files to work in APE 4. They need to be converted to .avi first and then opened in APE. Look for an mp4 to avi converter, there are lots of freeware converters around if you do a search on Google. MPEGStreamClip1.2 and SUPER(c) are two that come to mind.

Yeah this is what i thought but just wanted a second opinion as the person i'm trying to set this up for doesn't believe this is the only way and maybe it isn't but i don' t have the technical know-how of how to set this up correctly.
