Thread: Problems importing/editing .avi files...

Hello,

I'm having trouble editing avi files in premiere pro CS4.

I ripped something from a dvd as an avi file, and tried importing the file into premiere pro, and the entire two hour long file imports in seconds... I figured there was a problem with that.

Anyway, the imported file appears to be the right length, but it is unusable, really choppy, and just not working at all. It isn't the file, I can watch it in other programs just fine. How can I import this correctly? do I need to do the ripping to a different file type if possible?

You need to make sure the file format is dv avi. just because the file is an avi, it doesn't mean it will work, there could be anthing in there from uncompressed to divx.
