Default Converting Pinnacle MPG files for use with Premier Pro

QuestionI have a ton of Pinnacle MPEG files created using the DC1000. I understand that there is no plug in for Premier Pro to read these. So, I'm guessing, I'll have to open import each file into a Premier 6.5 project. Since they read Pinnacle MPG files. Then export them to an AVI file (which will be very large).

Then, to get the file back to a smaller size, compress it to an MPG file using Premier 6.5 MPG encoder plug-in (by MainConcept).

First of all, has anyone developed a plug-in that allows Premier Pro to read Pinnacle DC1000 MPG files? Or, is there a software package that will do the conversion for me; from Pinnacle DC1000 MPG to a readable mpeg format for Premier Pro?

I would have thought Premiere would import these files. The only problem being that without an MPEG plugin, you won't be able to edit in real time.

Mainconcept sell a plugin to enable this: http://www.mainconcept.com/mpeg_pro.shtml

I have downloaded Mainconcept's latest version and it still will not read Pinaacle mpg files.

Bummer. I'll have a dig around. Do you have a small file you could send me?

The posting allows for 5MB. I think your original open in 6.5, convert, import to Pro is the way to go for now though.

Better yet, here is a link to the file. I zipped it (even though it really doesn't compress all that much).

I have to head out. I'll check back in a couple hours.

As ever, things are never easy in the video editing world. Pinnacle, in their infinite wisdom, made an MPEG codec which wasn't which didn't fit the usual MPEG standards... so altjough it plays back fine, you need specific support to edit. (Why do we even bother with standards?). So without specific support, you can't edit them, I couldn't fund a plug in for Premiere Pro despite a lengthy look, and Pinnacle have no intention of doing so.

Seems that you'll need to convert in Premiere 6.x first.
