Thread: Capturing footage from DVD Camcorders in Premiere Pro.

I have a sony handycam DVD201. I was thinking of buying Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. Can I capture footage from the 8cm DVDs straight from the DVD drive using Premiere Pro? The reason I am asking is I can only transfer footage via USB if I use the 'Imagemixer' software that came with the camera.

From reading the specs of your cam, no. There's no firewire. The best thing to do is stick the DVD in your PC and rip it from there. These cams clearly weren't designed with video editing in mind!

Is it possible to do that using Prem Pro? I am using Video Studio 8 at the minute and it lets me import DVD-VR but I'm not sure if it is the same with Prem Pro.

No. You'll have to first convert the VOB files to something Premiere can read.

Do you know how I would be able to convert these files? I am new to all this.

If memory serves me correctly, flaskmpeg can do this. Or try DVDx.

To everyone who has a DVD201. I bought myself one and you can easily edit your videos...

The fact that they are already in mpeg2, it will transfer the video rather quickly.

Then import them with Pinnacle liquid Edition 6 or Pinnacle Studio...it also works with Adobe Premiere Element but you need a very good PC or else it will glitch during viewing.

You can also convert your mpeg to AVI using Virtualdub and edit it with the software I mentioned earlier. There are other software you can try but these have been tried by me and works great.
