Default Syn problem with seperate audio and video source

I recently recorded a classroom and i used an cannon xl-1 but i did not use the audio from it. What i did was i used a sony mini disc player/recorder to record the audio because i get less hiss and i can clip a lavalier mic to the teacher. But in editing im finding that the audio and video are getting out of sync, even after about 3 to 4 seconds its pretty bad. Both sources are unedited so far, so they are just getting out of sinc for some reason. Im thinkin it could be the difference in the speeds they record at, but im not sure cause that doesnt make too much sense. If anyone could possibly help me out. Just maybe some tips to edit the audio with some formula to edit every x seconds to get it to work. (x equalying some number). Im so screwed if i cant get this to work, if anything i could use the audio from the camera but it sucks, so that is a last resort. Thanks alot

if you're using premiere pro you could speed up or slow down the audio with the rate/stretch tool ( I think that's what it's called) or just use the right click>speed tool
