Smile Unsupported Compression in AVI

Hi, I'm new here, and new to Premiere Pro 7.0. After a year spent labouring with AVS video editor I'm unused to the way Prem Pro works, and I'm confused. Unfortunately all my footage is shot with a Fuji Finepix for the moment, which is AVI. Every clip I attempt to import into PP is being rejected as having unsupported compression. Does this mean I have to go back through all my source material and re-encode it, or is there a quicker way around this problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Use Windows Movie Maker to convert the files to DV-AVI (not the same as AVI).
Those files will still have good quality and will work in Premiere without any problems.

There is a free tutorial on how to convert files using Movie Maker here
