Default striped tapes - no timecode

Howdy again folks - I'm brand new to this game....was told to stripe my tapes which I did....BUT NOW I when I set in and out points and then log the tape, then go for batch capture....nothing happens 'cause it says it can't find the timecode. The tape plays OK on the initial run but on the capture run it doesn't do anything because of the timecode problem. I managed to do it OK on unstriped tapes. Admittedly I have had the striped tape in and out the camcorder a few times and rewound a few times....does this make it uncaptureable ???? where do I go from here ?
