ok i just tried the slice and add to video 2... and in the preview, it still shows black... i wonder if it's something to do with the file itself? that would explain it, although it would really suck if that were it because the tape the clip came from is history...

How did you capture the video? What codec did you use? Does it play ok in media player?

i just looked at the properties of that clip... it's size is 640x480, whereas the rest of the clips are 740x480...

i captured it in windows movie maker (before i had premiere), and it uses 'iv50', Indeo® video 5.10... i just copy/pasted that because codecs confuse the hell outta me! it plays ok in media player... a little 'squiggly' but ok...

Hmm, perhaps Premiere is being picky. Download and install the panasonic DV codec: http://users.tpg.com.au/mtam/install_panvfwdv.htm
Then convert your file to DV AVI in an external app (perhaps VirtualDub) and import the resulting DV into Premiere.
