I'm capturing clips from a dvd player using a WinTV Express card. I've compressed the clip and it plays in Windows Media Player, but when I try to import it into Premiere, it crashes. Any ideas where I could be going wrong? (the clip is very short - a few seconds worth).
Thanks

How have you compressed the footage, what is its file type?
Can you import other types of footage into premier ok?

I've compressed the clip using DivX 5.0.3 and it's an avi file. I can import other clips (not captured by me)
Thanks for your reply

Thanks, Marc - that's working fine now.
One more question if you don't mind. When I'm capturing, I'm getting a dotted black line at the top left. Is there a way to prevent this?
Thanks again

That would normally be hidden by the casing of the TV . You can simply crop the top when editing/encoding.

Thanks again, Marc - that makes sense.
Apologies if this is a really dumb question, but the clips I'm capturing look quite dark. Is there a way to adjust this when capturing?

You can adjust the brightness of your clips at the edit stage. (Effects > Video Effects > Image Control)
