Default Best Codec to use???

Newish user here looking for a bit of info.

After compiling a project, I usually save to a avi or back to tape but I would like to save in a mpeg format that is high quality but relativly small size.

For instance, I downloaded a 1 min clip off the internet. It is in mpeg format and I can go full screen with it and get really good quality. The size was only 10 meg.

Would love to find out what codec can do that. Any special info?

Special program to do it? Does Premier Pro have it built in?

Thanks in advance for the info and help.

Phil

Good quality MPEG1 full screen and less than 10MB --> that's pretty good going, where d;ya download it from?

Anyways, you need to play around with some settings if you want to maximise your quality to file size ratio. WMV seems to be the medium of choice at the mo, so download Windows Media Encoder and get your hands dirty. If you need a helping hand around WME, just give me a shout!

May I dive in and ask a related question? I"ve just finished a complex 28'50" documentary edit using Premiere 6.02 it weighs in at a hefty 6.11 Gig WMP file. I would like to burn it to DVD and am looking for advice on how best to encode it to get it onto 1 DVD with the minimum loss of quality? Both sound and vision are important.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received.
