Default problem cropping video using adobe premiere

i'm editing a video in adobe premiere pro and i'm trying to crop 25% of the width from the left and right sides, which i thought would resize the video when exported from 320x240 to 160x240 (50% less width due to cropped area being removed). however, when i export it, it is the same size, but with a black area filling in the area i cropped, which sounds the same as a clip effect. i also tried changing scaling under "motion" in the fixed effects section, and then scaling using the transform effect. but no matter what i do, the result when i export the video to .avi has black area around the video.

can someone please explain how to crop the actual horizontal size of a video so that the exported video is resized to the cropped area?

thank you!!

mike

Hi,

When resize your video with the Scale or Transform effect does the video in the right hand monitor expand so it fills the monitor and all the black area goes? Also have you got the monitor set to FIT so you can see all the video or is it zoomed in?

Regards

Mark
