0 Videos nominated Video Of the Month(s): 0 | | Cropping Clips for Re-use
Hi all,
I'm working on a project where I need to take a number of source clips, make edits, including cropping them (each clip may have different crop settings), and re-use them to create a final video.
I'm using Premiere Pro 1.5 and I don't think I can actually crop my clips without compressing them (via the pre-compression tasks). So, the question is, how do I go about cropping my clips and re-using them without applying any compression?
The final output will be FLV, so I'd like to avoid compressing too many times before outputting to FLV.
I hope that makes sense. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
K

With cropping you mean zooming in on a part if your image, right? In that case you will allways lose resolution. If you want to reuse it in another project you can export it as dv-avi and import it again in the second project.

Thanks for your response and sorry for not being clear. I've captured a series of video clips off my dv cam. Each clip is a 720x480 AVI. I need to crop each clip, i.e. only use 360x240 of the 720x480 (so, not zooming or resizing). Each one of the clips needs to be cropped at different X:Y coordinates.
Then, I want to bring these 360x240 clips back into Premiere Pro and use them for my final video. Hopefully that makes sense.

What are the dimensions of the final movie intending to be when outputted? Full PAL/NTSC?

The video is in NTSC format. The final dimensions will be 320x240. Final output will be FLV.

Yes you can crop without compressing the file and then resize the video to fit in the screen. You can move the clips round as much as you like. Email me if you want any further help.
