Default Burn Baby Burn

Hey all
If I have a project in highest possible resolution for my cam direct DV etc..
How do I burn it to achieve maximum transfer
When I create an avi it is say 2gig

but when I burn the project at best qual NTSC it 800 MB????
severely lossy
What to do??
