if the sound is not there then it'll be obvious because you simply won't see it on the timeline. Are you playing back from the timeline or just playing the clip from the project bin?

Quick 101... When you drag a clip with integrated sound to the timeline in Ppro then you see two 'layers' on the timeline. you have a video layer and an audio layer. by default the two are linked so if, say, you take your razor tool and splice one then you splice them both. If you right click on the clip in the timeline you can select to unlink the two and then an edit on one will not affect the other.

Ok so what i did was import the clip and then dragged it onto the video one time line. Since there is nothing in the audio time line does that mean there is no audio imported as none plays when i play the time line. Also unlink doesn't appear when i right click.

Thats a picture of the current window. All i did in it was drag the clip from the right to the Video one time line

if the video and audio are still synced then when you drag the video clip into the timeline the audio will also come in. If you cant hear the audio while playing the clip via the play button then check your audio sequence in the timeline to see if its there. If it is make sure the speaker icon is on. If however you cant hear it while scrubbing the timeline check your preferences to see if the box for previewing audio is turned on.

Looking at that screenshot it looks like the video file you are using does not have sound - or at least Premiere isn't recognising any sound in it. Does the file have sound that is audible when you play it through Media Player? I presume that it does.

I notice its an mpeg file and not an AVI one. This may have something to do with it.

You could try extracting the sound from the original mpg file using Virtualdub. Save the sound from the mpg file as a WAV file, then import the WAV file into a free audio layer on your project timeline, separately.
