Default No sound from avi's in premiere 2.0

I have just upgraded from premiere pro 7.0 to premiere 2.0. Previously i have used 7.0 to arrange video clips of my friends with clips of movies in avi. format. However when i try to load these projects into 2.0 the audio doesn't import with the avi., can any one shed any light on this?

I've experienced similar problems with some files which did not seem to have audio and video de-muxed. :/

I'd appreciate some light on the subject as well lol.

I have had this occur many times and I can only assume it is a bug in the programming of Premiere Pro as it also happens in version 2.0. The way round it is to use an audio editing program like Audition which is what I use.

I import the avi file into the software then export the audio track as a seperate audio file (MP3, WAV whatever you want).

Import this audio file into your Premiere project. In the timeline lock the video track of the original avi file and cut the audio track replacing it with you new audio file. This should work fine.

The problem also affects Premiere Elements, seems to happen more when editing MPEGs with AC3 audio in Elements though, another bug I've noticed is sometimes when editing WMVs on certain computers the video flips upside down when it's rendered.
