Default importing ripped files into Premiere

I have some DVDs which I want take extracts from and edit in Premiere Pro (1.5) . I've spent a whole afternoon trying different rippers and different formats and not one of them has produced a file which is compatable with Premiere.

Can anyone suggest a programme which can rip files into a high quality format that can be imported and edited in Premiere. One of the DVDs has got copy protection on it (I have full permission of the copyright holder to use the extract) so I need a ripper that can rip copy protected dvds.

Thanks so much

Sarah
